January 12, 2021 1:00PM – Ringling Museum
Circus Panel

This first event leading up to our Annual Convention, was absolutely awesome. Sponsored by the Ringling Museum in Sarasota FL, Charlie Conrad (WJU #1525) and President Don Covington (WJU #119) served as the panelists to augment the historical presentation about the role of music and the windjammers in the circuses.

Ringling Museum Educational Session: 1/12/2021

Nearly 90 people participated in the event on ZOOM with many Windjammers Members using their video cameras. The Ringling Museum hosts, Jennifer Lemmer-Posey and Laura Steefel-Moore delivered a perfect setup for the history of the musicians in the Ringling Circus, and of course Merle Evans was front and center. Charlie gave an excellent historical perspective of the evolution of Circus Music in the USA from the 1700s forward. He demonstrated several horns with historical significance as well. Don expanded the context with an in-depth look at the history of Windjammers Unlimited and the many notable performers, non-players, bandsmen, and band leaders who have been part of WJU’s 50-year history.

BRAVO to Charlie, Don, Jennifer and Laura for yet another outstanding job. May all your Days be Circus Days.
